PRE & POST CARE PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Dermal Filler 


Pre-Treatment Instructions:


  • If you have a special event or vacation coming up, please keep in mind that you may want to schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.

  • Clients should not schedule any vaccination or invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after treatment with Dermal Fillers. These include but are not limited to:



    • COVID vaccine or Flu Vaccine

    • Dental cleaning or dental work

    • Lesion excision or biopsy

    • Surgery of any kind



  • For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to  your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John's Wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin. 

  • Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex 500 mg BID, 5 days, start 2 days prior to treatment)

  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any "anti-aging" products for two days before and after treatment.

  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.

  • Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of it's ingredients or suffer from any neurological disorders

  • Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by provider.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.



    • Avoid submerging head under water for a full 24 hours after midface treatment (Voluma or Restylane Lyft); this includes pools, beach, bathtub, hot tub, etc.



  • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling.

  • If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.

  • Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort.

  • Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.

  • Take Arnica to help the bruising and swelling. Begin taking at least two days prior to injections.



    • Avoid cosmetic treatments such as laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or micro-dermabrasion for 2 weeks after treatment.

    • Try to avoid wearing makeup or lipstick until the day after treatment. Earlier use may cause pustules.



Dermal fillers last, on average, 6-12 months. It is recommended at the time of your treatment to schedule your next appointment for optimal anti-aging benefits. The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. However, please call the office to notify us if you experience any additional side effects.


Neurotoxin Jeuveau/Botox 


Pre Care InstructionsAvoid the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS, Ginko Biloba, Garlic Supplements, Green Tea, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for up to 1 week pre and post injection as they will increase your risk of bruisingDo not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruisingYou may take Arnica tablets 2-3 days prior to your injection to reduce the risk of bruisingDo not apply products that are potentially irritating for 2 -3 days before and after treatment(examples- tretinoin/retin-a, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone)Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.
Day of TreatmentArrive with a clean face. Please do not wear makeupYou may experience a mild amount of tenderness or stinging during and following injectionRedness and swelling are normalSome bruising may also be visible
Post Care InstructionsIt is best to try to exercise your treated muscles for 1-2 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raise your eyebrows, and squint). This helps to work the product into your muscles.Stay in a vertical position for 4~5 hours following injection. Do not rest your head or lie down; situpright.Ice (but avoid firm pressure) for 15 minutes 3 times the day of treatmentYou may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness/discomfortDo not massage treated areas after treatmentAfter treatment there will be moderate swelling and redness with possibility of bruising. You may apply or take Arnica tablets to help decrease the amount of bruising Avoid extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsidedApply SPFAvoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to reduce bruisingYou may resume other normalactivities/routines immediately
